Glasgow Sunday Amateur Football League

The Official Website

Welcome

Welcome to the official website of the Glasgow Sunday Amateur Football League. The Glasgow Sunday AFL is affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Football Association and was established in 1978. Since then the league has grown in stature and reputation and we now have a three division structure consisting of a total 27 member clubs.

Season 2008/2009 will see us celebrate 30 years of the league, a magnificent achievement for all who have been involved over the years!

This site is largely here to benefit member clubs but is also a great source of information for visitiors outwith the GSAFL.

Congratulations to Provanmill Thistle who won the 1st division title on the final day of their season as they beat Castlemilk United 3-1 in the league decider. The two teams had been tied on points and the final game saw a "winner-takes-all" scenario. Both sides will be playing Premier Division football next year as they filled the promotion places from Division 1.

Domino Cars League Cup Final - Centaur 1 v 1 Govan Harhill (Centaur won 4-1 on pens)

Centaur took home the league cup after a dramatic penalty shoot-out win against a Govan side who should probably have won the game in normal time. Govan took the lead after 10 minutes and looked the better side for much of the game. Indeed, they could have extended their lead on 25 minutes but they were denied by the assistant's offside flag as their goal was chalked off. Centaur looked dangerous but failed to find their cutting edge until the second half when they hit back with a header from short range. Govan then hit the woodwork twice in the second half of normal time before the game fizzled out into extra time before the penalties.

Some photographs will be uploaded shortly.

Consolation Scoreboard Sports Trophy Final - Rutherglen Vultures 0 v 1 Budhill

A goal in the fifth minute was enough to clinch the cup for Budhill at Petershill Park last night as they came out on top in a hard fought game against Rutherglen Vultures. Budhill dominated the first half and took the lead early on when a tame looking effort squirmed under the Rutherglen keeper. Rutherglen came into the game after the break without creating any clear cut chances and Budhill still looked the more likely to increase their lead. With ten minutes remaining the Budhill keeper produced a magnificent stop to deny Rutherglen, diving to his right to claw out a deflected effort which had him going the other way.

Photographs from the game can be seen here.

Scoreboard Sports Trophy Final - Castlemilk Dynamo 3 v 1 Easthall Star

Castlemilk Dynamo won the Scoreboard Sports Trophy at Petershill Park last night in dramatic fashion as they scored two goals in stoppage time. A dogged first half saw Easthall look the better of the two teams but Dynamo upped the pace after the break and took the lead on the hour mark. Easthall thought back though and equalised just 5 minutes later. The game continued to swing from end to end with the Easthall keeper making some fine stops to keep his side in the tie. Just as it looked as though extra time would be required, Dynamo scored 3 minutes into injury time with their third following a minute later.

Photographs from the game can be seen here.
